Goodbye 2023, Hello 2024

As 2024 is just 12 days away, people often take time to evaluate the past and make goals for the future. When looking at New Year "Resolutions", it is important to consider Biblical Stewardship.

What exactly is Biblical Stewardship?

I think Biblical Stewardship is acknowledging God as owner and giver of all that we have and all that we are. He gives us life and He owns everything. As believers, we are stewards. We are responsible to look after or manage what has been entrusted to us. Basically, we are not the boss.

In my opinion, having a stewardship mentality frees me up from worldly anxiety and entanglement. My attitude is no longer to please others, but I am to please and honor God. Colossians 3:17 says, whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:23 says, whatever you do, do your work heartily as for the Lord, rather than for men.

When making goals, the acronym SMART is often used. Here is my version of those letters:

Stewardship (Self-awareness & Spirit-led) & Specific

Meaningful & Measurable

Action-based & Achievable

Relevant & Realistic

Truth based & Time-bound

In fact, I'd strongly suggest that you'd first ask God for a Bible verse or passage of focus.

For 2024, the LORD led me to Romans 12:12 -- Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

What areas can we look at when setting goals? Here are seven possibilities to consider:

1.     Spiritual

2.    Physical (Emotional)

3.    Educational (Mental)

4.    Professional (Career)

5.    Recreational (Entertainment)

6.    Relational

7.    Financial

God wants us to live life abundantly. He invites us to daily draw near and to abide in Him. As followers of Jesus, we need to fully grasp the concept of stewardship. We need to yield our lives to our faithful and generous God.

So, what has He entrusted to you and how are you stewarding your talents?
